Interesting, never given the pump too much thought before, on track my temps are always good, on a dyno it's another matter.
I would have first thought an electric pump might be the way to go for more efficiency, Tony has gone that route I believe?

Rob - pretty tight in there on the 1.8t for anything 'other' the block is machined of impeller from memory?
The 16v is I guess do able...
Saw a water pump from a Ferrari the last day, impeller machined from billet
Ditto on the electric 'Craig David' pump
for ultimate control.

Some late BMW's use an electric Pierburg made water pump...controlled via the std ecu...we were trying to get a wiring diagram for it.

Are you struggling to keep temps down Rob?

Water temps no, oil temps yes. Cooling is always welcome, less high drag radiator intakes needed, more speed!

my issue is lack of space for a big rad , and small bumper openings!
Any thoughts on getting heat out of the 'bay?

I don't know if this applies to you, you may have already done it. I found getting air through the rad was very important for temps, this summer I sealed my rad by adding sheet alu on the sides and the top of my rad which met tightly up to the profile of the grill/bumper etc this ensured air coming in could only go through the rad and not around or over it - which is often a less restrictive path.
Now I have had it on the sides for years but I added a top peice and my water temps dropped by a good few degrees. (something like 6 degrees I think).

I only have a half height rad, but with ducting like tom says it seems fine - nice quality WRC-spec core though from Radtec
The ideal solution is to have an air outlet duct on the back of the rad but we just dont have space for it. Have considered a couple rows of bonnet louvers above the back rad area - that might be a good move.....

I need to add some ducting around mine, as I have the oil cooler, then a Rallye intercooler and then my radiator. Even though it's a Corrado VR6 one, it struggles when the temperatures get above 30 Celsius.

Cheers Tom good to hear that.
Rob , same thinking in the ducts/vents, talking to a boffin mate, apparently they work best at sucking heat out if you put a flap in front like a gurney, think of the raised section in front of a Mitsubishi evo bonnet vent. Looking at a few wrc cars here, same idea.

yep - the gurney will cause a negative pressure zone behind it and suck air out of louvres
