Door repair.
« on: January 29, 2014, 03:58:14 pm »
I'm looking into repairing my drivers door, it has a fair amount of rust along the bottom edge. A new door is £500 on vw heritage. But I noticed they do a repair panel for £26! Has anyone used one of these repair panels before or know of any other options.
Pretty much everything on eBay is rot. I'm looking at getting my car re sprayed soon and it's not worth painting over rot!

Pick up a decent second hand one on one of the Golf forums?

Have you looked at the frame of your door to see if it's worth repairing? You need something solid to weld to.

I think there are still solid Mk2 doors out there to be had.

Pics always help….

By the time you trim, fit, tack weld, test fit the door, adjust, weld, fill, sand and paint this, you'll probably wish you found a good used door.
