Do you think an independent beam would be an advantage on a smooth surface car? The caterham boys tell me not......on a road or rally car yes, but when the wheels dont move much anyhow....

Great developments Tony.

Will be interesting to hear how you get on with the fsi as there are some pretty big issues to solve to get big power from one of these.

Keep meaning to strap a spare beam to the bench and hook a spring balance up to the arms and onto the engine crane, then can see how much resistance per cm of flex is built in.

Then bolt bits on bobs to the beam to try and effect resistance.

A beam axle is just a big arb. It shouldnt need a second one......

Hi Tony
I like what you have done here, its smarter than the towers idea, but do you think it needs the towers at all? Why not just brace the beam across the corner with plates?
Given the number of golfs racing the world over, i am suprised there isnt a really nice lightweight fabbed rear beam available. I ve never seen one.....anyone else?

Good to see you over here, i reckon this is going to be an interesting and fun place to hang out.

Been keeping tabs on your build on the other channel but obviously cannot comment over there so good if you can put stuff up here you might want to air.

Need to see if we can meet up at Anglesey next year.....

Whats the scoop on that box failure then?

My issue with mods like this is the weight that it adds to an already very heavy component. And lets just think about what its doing.....if its to stop toe changes under load, the arms of the beam flexing inwards, why does it need the towers? Beetle cup cars have the braces, but no towers.

Maybe the towers are to enable negative camber to be forced into the beam?

Folks copy what was done on works rally cars but I dont think we understand why......

Ibiza 'works' kitcars didn't have the braces - instead they boxed the outside of the beam in the area where the wheel rim would nearly rub

Great video! I do like that Golf tourer - was that the fastest VAG car at the event, or were there some Leon supercopa's there?

So its essentially a std engine with a head job. 270 cam is mild in my opinion on this engine and should cause no issues whatsoever. Do you know lift at overlap figs?

A 270 8v cam doesnt sound very wild at all. Is this an otherwise std 1800 8v?

shame - its useful to know a good welder nearby - I use a local engineering firm but they take their time a bit too much

Yep, its instead of heat wrapping, which doesn't last long in my experience before turning to dust and dropping off. The ceramic coating lasts for years, and doesn't attack your skin also when working near it.
