Faultless, for a 1st time out. Engine doesn't feel quick, but the mk2 is a heavier car than the mk1. Love the 4.8FD so you just rattle thro the gears to fifth everywhere.
Black ice at the start of the day and we were quick. Decent tyre choice, but we slid back as the day went on, as I wanted to stay with the same tyres, to get some seat miles.
Ended 35th OA. Really strong entry 90+, 68 finishers so 1/2 way in the field.
Next, get some weight out of it, upgrade brakes and suspension
18th Jan: Jack Frost: Croft again. Would really like some snow

That's a decent result Jon..and something to build on.

Interesting you say about the feel. .I've yet to drive a 16v that feels like it wants to rip yr arms off...even in a mk1. .ive driven a customers 2ltr with 190hp and 150 ibft...and the 1800 8v hillclimb engines will murder them with the same hp yet worse torque. .both cars stripped sub 750 kilos.

I did notice in your engine bay pics you have a short inlet manifold that kicks up...I have a plan for you... ;)

Also...radiator close to carbs?...the carbs need a clear path with no chance of drawing warm air in.

Also...did you run with filters?...direct air being forced in at speed upsets the signal through the vents and buggers up the fuelling. You wont notice the last bit on a dyno..only on the test track

I know. My mk1 feels quickish. Maybe because its raw due to comp engine mounts?
My rallycross mk1 full race EG 1600 DID feel quick with a GS6 in it
My full race mini's used to feel mega

A plan? I've just bought a longer 2 piece manifold from ebay. Couldn't resist it. Always have ears for a plan

Yes, I know.....mk1's not much better.

Always run filters, usually K&N's so the tin plate should stop signal interruption

Thanks for the input

Ideal...K&N's are spot on.

Rad location still ideally needs moving...especially with a longer manifold. .sounds like you have both those covered. I was going to get a copy of my alloy 16v manifold made in steel as a test unit for you to try back to back on the rollers...but your already on it! Trumpet length requirements are likely to change. .short trumpets with a long manifold. .worth grabbing a set to try as well at manifold swap time.

My thoughts also re the 8 V's 16v engine. .or any come to that...even if the power is similar,  an engine with a hot cam draws harder and gives a deeper grunty feel you don't get with a soft cam engine.

Cheers Jason, the more I dwell on it the more I think the KC495's are a different breed to a 'normal' 300 mech race cam. My mk1 has 1605's and it is so loud and aggressive I don't like starting it up at home, for fear of scaring small mammals. The mk2 starts and idles quietly with no fuss, drama and its quiet. The area under the crossover curve must be hugely different.

Anyway, out tomorrow at Croft again in the Jack Frost rally. Weather looks kinder than the last few days
Jon
