What does the push rod push against to force the friction plate away from the pressure plate ?

Cracking off centre ... 2Y in a modified 2.0l 9A

Fixed it! It turned out to be one of the three tangs on the back of the pressure plate has snapped.

Thanks for all your help and advice, now it time to go race a rusty prelude and some scoobies!
Oak green mk2 2 litre gti with a JMR head!

With a some clutches you get a realease plate without punched nibs.
Certainly some of the Sachs 'Sporting' Clutches have this release plate



SO this does not happen.

(Release plate from my PB clutch was after just 190,000 miles. Mind you it was a LUK unit?)



As it was scrap, I practiced my welding on the back of the pip.



I contacted Sachs but they were unhelpful.
