Not been on here for a long long time.
Anyway, that promised update, somewhat late.. Like everyone, at home tinkering.. The race EG got finished, built and is in my very light, very old competition car. Spec: went with the longman flat head, near flat piston tops, GS6, 45 DCOE's and 4:1 Surprisingly flat torque curve at the top end, sounds good Only 150hp ish though, slightly disappointing. Used it a Croft British championship sprint, but it got rained off, easter couple, few years ago. The car is ready to sprint, rallycross, autocross (configuration tweeked to suit obviously..) but a real lack of clubman events around these days. Being 1600 doesn't really fit 2020 classes any more. Anyway, two other additional reasons for posting; 1. Need a 020 JMR gear linkage for the new project 2. New project is another race/rally/track/etc mk1, maybe post a new thread, if anybodies interested.. Jon 4

ENGINES / Rebuilding a standard KR with 45DHLA's !!« on: February 21, 2015, 08:07:51 am »
Not much traffic on here, so i'll share this for comment;
Building a std KR from a bare block to use as a low cost track car engine. Engine now in the chassis, and 45DHLA's on, the first time I have used 'delboys' Seem to be nice design carbs, 36 chokes, 140 mains and 180 airs, correct tubes as far as I can find out. 42 pumps. Idles are 60's so a bit big I think. Set up by Bogg brothers, allegedly. Port matched the head to suit the manifold. Tubular 4 branch Ignition: going to start it on a KR dizzy driving straight into an amp. I know this wont give me any advance, but at least it should start. Will let you know when it runs Jon 6

Ha, Isn't it always when you have a moment you get caught on film! I had the same car out 2 weeks earlier at croft (xmas stages) and had a steady run through all eight stages without so much as a broken wing mirror
oh well new panels going on soon, damage is purely cosmetic Interested to see the 'after' graphs, terry, your motor is in good hands. Jon 7

Always welcome, but we talk and work (and drink tea) in my garage. I travel quite a lot, often at short notice, so its hard to book ahead.

Price up the parts before jumping in and rebuilding the engine. eg
rebore £80, head gasket bolts be bearings gaskets cambelt kit £200 etc There are no cheap engine rebuilds I have a fully modified JMR 8v big valve (40.5) head and matching inlet and cast ported ex manifold spare ATM. This would be fantastic on an otherwise std engine. It would look bog std from the outside You would have to come to me to see it. I'm not jumping through any hoops to get rid, as I have half an idea to supercharge an 8v pm me if interested Jon 12
MEMBERS MOTORS / Re: mk2 tarmac rallycar. just built. finished its 1st rally. more dev to come...« on: January 17, 2015, 08:35:04 am »
Cheers Jason, the more I dwell on it the more I think the KC495's are a different breed to a 'normal' 300 mech race cam. My mk1 has 1605's and it is so loud and aggressive I don't like starting it up at home, for fear of scaring small mammals. The mk2 starts and idles quietly with no fuss, drama and its quiet. The area under the crossover curve must be hugely different.
Anyway, out tomorrow at Croft again in the Jack Frost rally. Weather looks kinder than the last few days Jon 13

We need a Tardis like machine to bring Sunderland closer to Cornwall. I have bought two cars from down there in the last year, and it takes forever to get there with a trailer on the back
Other than that the job's yours. |
